Latest on the social networking front – AOL acquires Bebo


Bebo, has a 40 million worldwide membership. But with only 4,8 million in the US, they’re evident way behind big boys MySpace (68 million) Facebook (32 million). But it’s core focus is towards the UK market (13th largest site and 11.4 million unique visitors it’s a prompt act from the former giant on the market. AOL just bought it for $ 850 million.


The Bebo acquisition "puts us squarely in a leading position in social media at a time when it's growing at a fantastic rate," AOL's CEO Randy Falco wrote in a note to employees. "It will help power our strategic priorities across the board. And, just as important, by acquiring Bebo we can reclaim our heritage as a leader and innovator in the online community space."
