Danish technology company, Goalref, has developed the ‘Intelligent handball’ (innovative enough called - drums - iBall, "Hey, guys, the stupids at Apple haven't got exclusive to i-Stuff - let's use it!)It works with magnetic sensors and knows when it has passed the goal line (or not).
The international handball society, IHF is gonna use it in public in the men’s ’09 World Cup in Croatia. With a precision of five millimetres the ball, with a microchip in locates the signal from the goal and sends a cryptic signal to the ref, enabling him to end arguments and discussions before they even occur. If all works well, the plan is to try it in football and eventually ice hockey. And as German company Adidas is working on a ball on their own ball, but with GPS sensors, and Fifa who haven’t decided about anything really, it’s hopefully going to be a tight and fun race.
